MHS STW Game of Tiaras Tech Week

This past week was a busy week for Speech and Theatre Workshop; also known as tech week. If you’ve never been apart of a show, then you’re probably wondering why everyone cringes and cries at tech week. Well, tech week is the last week of rehearsal for a show. But, it’s not only the last week, it’s the first week that the actors are introduced to costume, set, music, props, and lighting; which highly affects an actor’s pre-rehearsed performance.Adding props and scene changes means adding pauses to already intended lines; it’s very tedious work. All this work also means that rehearsals are longer. When you’re in high school, it seems as if the world is doomed. But, at the end of tech week, comes the final end product: the final performance, with an actual audience.

Middleboro High School’s Speech and Theatre Workshop produced Game of Tiaras written by Don Zolidis; a Game of Thrones and Disney princess twist on Shakespeare’s King Lear, a legendary play. The turnout for the show was simply amazing, and the actors should be truly proud of their performance. Comedies are some of the most difficult pieces to develop because audiences can be reluctant to laugh; but I think this cast was exceptionally good at painting on a smile to the audience’s faces. The play was truly a children’s play, but like all Disney films, there was hidden adult humor that made the piece apply to most every age group in the audience. Middleboro High should be exceptionally proud to add this year’s show to the books.
