Did you know that the “first Thanksgiving” wasn’t even a feast or a holiday, but just a simple gathering that was held after the pilgrims arrival to Plymouth Rock on 1621. The pilgrims arrived on the Mayflower after they suffered a loss of 46 out of 102 colonists on their journey.  However, thanks to the Indians helped the remaining 56 pilgrims survive a harsh winter. Afterward they all had a three day harvest to thank the Indians for what they did. The true meaning of Thanksgiving varies in many ways that come from the pilgrims harvest in 1621. It’s about loved ones gathering, teaching young ones about Thanksgivings traditions, and giving thanks towards what we have in our lives. Now almost 400 years later the way we celebrate Thanksgiving has much changed, and some of them are in ways that should be changed. There are many ways that you can improve your Thanksgiving…

Four hundred years ago nobody had the technology like we have today. There were no cell phones or computers. No television or video games. The only thing they did on Thanksgiving was cook and spend time together. Today we have so much technology in front of us that it is ruining the point of Thanksgiving. For example, for over fifty years the NFL has been broadcasted on TV. Don’t get me wrong I love football just as much as the next person. But sometimes getting too into these games can distract you from spending time with your family. If you’re someone who loves watching football on Thanksgiving, maybe you can go and watch a game with your family. That way you will be spending quality time with them. However television isn’t the only technology that is getting in the way. Ever since 1999 the average teenager has spent at least 7 ½ hours a day on technology such as  phones, listening to music, and video games. Maybe it’s time that everyone puts down the devices and tries to pay may more attention to all the great things around them. That is what Thanksgiving’s about isn’t it?

There are also other ways that you can help out your family on Thanksgiving. For example, if your a child or a teenager you could help your parents cook and clean. There are so many foods that you can make. The top ten foods that people serve on Thanksgiving are:

1.stuffing, 2.mashed potatoes, 3. sweet potato casserole, 4. green bean casserole, 5. ham, 6. cranberry sauce, 7. pumpkin pie, 8. brussel sprouts, 9. baked macaroni and cheese, 10. turkey. Some of these recipes are so easy to make and it would really help your family out if you tried to make them since they are probably working on the complicated part of the meal.  Cleaning is an even easier job if that’s something you would rather do too. Many of you have probably cleaned or at least help clean around your house before. So if you’re having company over it would be very helpful if you vacuumed, dusted, or even picked up your room. Therefore, there are many ways that you can improve your Thanksgiving such as putting down your devices, cooking, and cleaning for your family.
